Use the orientation session to conduct individual skill assessments as well. They will allow management and/or the team to identify strengths and weaknesses of the new employees and determine where gaps exist within the team.
Assign a mentor to each new hire to work directly with the employee from day one. Moreover, these mentors should continue to work with your new hires on a regular basis in order to get them off on the right foot and assist them in navigating their way through the system.
